Technical Team
McMullen Technical Design Team Capabilities:The McMullen Architectural Technical Design Team consists of multiple teams working in offices here in the USA, UK and in central Europe on our various live jobs. The Design Team are involved at all stages in the projects from Estimation, Design, Ordering of materials and products to delivery of the product to site ensuring a successful project delivered on time and to budget.
The Technical Design Team consists of:
Technical Manager – is responsible for the day to day organization of the team of designers allocated to a specific project. He will attend the project design workshops ensuring that the drawings are prepared, issued and returned according to the agreed programme. He is responsible for organising all project samples and mock-up and attaining approval before proceeding.
Structural Engineer – is responsible for carrying out a full structural analysis of all the components that make up the completed facade. This will include all spanning members (mullions and transoms), connection cleats and fixing brackets back to the main building structure.
Facade Engineer – is responsible for the production of the design drawings including elevations, sections and large scale details. Drawings will be revised and reissued until full approval status is received. Once drawings are approved he is responsible for producing all bills of material and preparing full fabrication drawings for the workshop.
Thermal Engineering Technician – is responsible for carrying out a full thermal analysis of the facade to ensure compliance with the project specification. He will also thermally analyse all joints and interfaces within the facade against the risk of condensation.
System Design Engineer – is responsible for the research and development of new and innovative building facade systems. He will take ideas from concept and develop them into a working system and oversee the process including prototyping, testing and preparation of full technical manuals and documentation.

All structural analysis is carried out in-house by our qualified structural Engineers, who are highly experienced in the façade industry. Overall facades and individual components are analysed using Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2009 software.

Thermal Engineering
In-house thermal analysis is undertaken by our thermal engineer for complete facades and individual elements using the FEA software package Bisco version 9.0w 2008 by Physibel.

System Design
Innovative design, system development and bespoke solutions are produced by the system design engineer, who utilises all the resources available both inside and outside the McMullen Group, from initial concept to prototyping and full scale system testing.
